The congregation was started in September, 1978, in a local church. Land for the permanent building was purchased in 1980. The temple administration moved to a temporary facility in 1983. The groundbreaking ceremony for the permanent building was in August 1986. Construction was completed in 1987 and the Torah march to the new building took place on October 25, 1987. The building was officially dedicated on December 18, 1987.

The architect for the project was Barry Stone. Leslie Perlis designed the stained glass windows in the sanctuary. They depict an open Torah scroll with ascending Hebrew letters.

Bima beautification was undertaken in 1989 with a donation by Lee and Toni Leichtag. The Bima was again renovated in 1994, this time in memory of Sondra Ottenstein with a donation by the Ottenstein family.

Rabbi Richard Schachet was rabbi from September 1978 to September 1979. Rabbi Bernard Goldsmith was rabbi from 1979 until 1984. Rabbi Lenore Bohm was rabbi from 1984 to 1991. Rabbi David Frank replaced her and is the current rabbi. The congregation has had two cantorial soloists; first, Anita Jordan Bard and presently, Kathy Robbins, who became full-fledged Cantor in 1994.
